MARY BLACKMAN
In the Charles county Gentry by Harry Wright
Newman, is a chapter on the Dent Family.
When he got to John Dent, which I call "III", on
page 64, he states that Mary, his wife was probably
connected to the Blackman family as there were at
least three of her grandchildren that carried the name,
such as Thomas Blackman Davis, son of Anne Dent
              and Charles Davis, born 1782.

is a record of Beaverdam Property listing that The
original property was taken over by Thomas Blackman
on June 10, 1743.  It had 211 acres and at the time John
Dorsey was tenant in position, the annual rent was
1.4.4 and the fines were 4.17.4,  and WAS now in the
possession of Tabitha Dent, age 25.  Tabitha
was the granddaughter of Thomas Blackman, and
daughter of Mary Blackman.  Lovely to have
              that connection made.

Mary Blackman was born about 1714 possibly in St.
Mary’s County, Maryland. Her parents we now believe
because of that property statement were Thomas
Blackman and either Ann or Elizabeth Brewer.
I'll explain the confusion on the mother's file.

The Blackman's were actively involved in the
community as were the Dent family.  They were
land owners, and occurred often in court records as
witness to wills and serving the community.

Mary wed John Dent III in Charles County Maryland about 1735. The Dent family has connections to Newport, in Charles County and Chaptico Hundred in St. Mary’s County. The two sites are near each other at the county line.
John's father, John Dent II died intestate in 1733. His eldest son, our John Dent III inherited the estate "Dent’s Inheritance. John III divided the estate of 1169 acres amongst all his brothers.
The Charles County MD 1733 Tax List has John Dent (III) as 1 taxable individual in Newport West side Lower Port.
The children of Mary and John Dent were:
              1. John Dent IV born about 1736
              2. Mary Dent born about 1738
              3. Hatch Dent born1751, died 1819
there was a Hatch Dent son of Hatch Dent
who this may be confused with
              4. Sarah Dent born about 1742 married John
                Clark
              5 Tabitha Dent born
              1743, wed Walter Moreland
              died after 1790
              6. Anne Dent born about 1745 wed Charles Davis
              7. Bennett Dent born about 1747
John III made various conveyances of land from
1757 to 1777. Each time Mary waived her dower
rights. The properties were on the north side of Piles’
Fresh., which is how we know her name was Mary.
Charles County Deed Book V, no 3, page 201

John Dent III took the oath of allegiance to the State of Maryland in Charles County in 1778. Found in the DAR library Unpublished Maryland Records Vol. 5.
John Dent III made a will dated December 21, 1788 and proved August 22, 1791. Charles County Will book AK No 11, page 28. Mary, his wife is not mentioned so we assume she had died sometime between 1777 and 1788.
It is not known where she is buried. But it could have
              been on Dent's Inheritance.
