JOHANNETTE KRUHOFER
THE STORY AS I KNOW IT
The Hartmann family can be traced in Gellershausen
bei Wildungen, Waldeck region of Germany to at least
mid 1700s.  Extended family is well documented in the
              Waldeckische Ortsippenbucher Band 62.  (Hochgrebe, Heinrich;
Waldeckischer Geschichtsverein e.V. Bad Arolsen; 1998.
History of the village of Gellershausen. It
contains an index of family surnames and data taken mostly
from Church records. Written in German. Scott Hanson
directed me to the resource and a wonderful distant
cousin, Christa, hand carried a copy to me in the
              US.  I am very grateful!

Gellershausen
is one of 13 small villages that make up the
administrative community of Edertal.  During the 18th
century Gellershausen was in the small Principality of
Waldeck.  Waldeck continues as a small city north of
Edertal.  Waldeck and the Edertal communities are now
part of Hesse Germany.  They lie in the
northwest of Hesse and about 40 kilometers southwest of
Kassel.  They are in the foothills and
forests of the low Kellerwald mountain range.

Johannette Kruhofer
was born on Jan 19, 1772 probably in Alt-Wildungen.
Her parents were Johann Jacob Kruhofer, a
"distinquished hunter"  is the best translation I can
come up with for (herrschaftlicker Jaeger) and Christiana Sophia Francisca
Pezer.  Both of Alt-Wildunger, now a part
of Bad Wildungen, Due east from Gellershausen.

She married Henrich Hartmann on Aug.5,
1803.  He was from Gellershausen.  The couple
lived and raised their children in the small
village.   Henrich Hartmann was a Glebe
in the village, the town administrator.  A position
              of importance.

The couple had the following children, dates are given as
              found in the Ortsippenbucher, day.month.year

1. Johann Henrich Hartmann born 19.3.1804. He died less than a year later on 18.2.1805
2. Johannette Marie Elisabeth Hartmann born 6.3.1806. She married Carl Berthold in Arolsen
3. Carl Hartmann, born 29.6.1809. He married Wilhelmine Fuchs of the same village.
4. Carl Heinrich Wilhelm born 21-8-1811. He died when 7 1/2 years old on 16.1.1819
Henrich Hartmann died in Sept of 1830. Johannette Kruhofer Hartmann lived another 9 years. She died 17.6.1839. I believe they were both buried in the
church cemetery.
