SARAH PERRY
THE STORY AS I KNOW IT.
Sarah Perry was born in 1820 in Caldwell County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of James and Penelope Perry. According to The Princeton Art Guild 1987 Year Book Caldwell Ct, Ky. Sarah was one of 8 children of James and Penelope. Penelope's name may have been Penelope Jenkins according to a webfriend. Needs confirmation.
The book Caldwell County Marriages 1804-1891 state that on May 10, 1845 Sarah Perry and Nathaniel Hubbard were married by James. C. Willer.
The 1850 Caldwell County census lists the family as:
Nat Hubbard born Tenn. age 24,
Sarah born Ky. age 30
Eliza J. Born Ky. age 4
Robert Patterson born Ky. age 1
John Perry born Ky. age 36. This is probably Sarah's brother.
Nathaniel Perry died
sometime between 1856 and 1860. On the Caldwell County 1860 Census is:
Mrs. S. Hubbard
age 40, Eliza age 14, Robert age 11, Joseph age 8, Thomas age 5, and John age 3. Sarah is listed as Family governess with real estate value at $1100 and personal estate of $270.
Tracking all the siblings of Sarah through the Census, I
discovered that the 1850 Caldwell Census stated that William
Perry was born in NC. and then the 1880 Census
had the following:
Wyley Perry age 66
Farmer born KY, both parents born NC
Sallie Hubbard, age 59,
sister, born KY, both parents born NC
Joseph Hubbard, age
27
Thomas Hubbard, age 24
This was the first I had ever heard of a connection to North Carolina, but it certainly implies that James Perry had a line back to North Carolina before Tennessee. Can anyone else make a connection?
Sarah Perry Hubbard died 1883 and is buried in the Perry Cemetery north of Princeton Kentucky. The tombstone says simply "Sarah Perry, his wife 1820-1883" It is with Nathaniel Hubbard's stone.
