JANE SIMCOE
Jane Simcoe was born about1700. We do not know where she was born or who her parents were.
According to Maryland Marriages 1634-1777 Jane Simcoe wed Nathan Phillips on April 18, 1733 at St. Mary Ann's Parish in North East, Cecil County Maryland. As Nathan's known daughter, Elizabeth was a mother in 1741, we do not believe that Jane Simcoe was her mother but Nathan's second wife.
We know Nathan had at least four children, maybe five but we don't believe any of those were born to Jane Simcoe.
Nathan Phillips will is in the Maryland Archives, Liber 25, page 407. It states that Nathan Phillips of Elk River left the plantation to wife Jane Phillips. After her death to be divided between James Boulden and Johanes Arrants. The will was filed in 1748. James Boulden and Johanes Arrants were Nathan's two son-in-laws.
There is a will at the Maryland Archives for Jean
Phillips, Liber 26, F page 57 filed 1749.. Both the
wills are noted in Index to Cecil County MD Wills
1674-1777. In her will, Jane mentions
son George Simcoe and son-in-law Johannes
Arrants. It was witnessed by Manadow
Phillips, Nathan's son.
Nothing is known about Jane Simcoe but here are a few Simcoe names that have come to light. Perhaps they will connect someday.:
The Debt Book noted in Inhabitants of Cecil County 1649-1774 by Henry C. Peden lists George Simco & Anna Catharina 1734-1766.
The Index of Colonial Maryland Wills
(1634-1777) lists George Simcoe
(Simcho) 1721/2 of Cecil County found in Liber 17,
pages 101.
this makes the most sense for Jane's first
husband, as she had a son also named George, and
she remarried Nathan Phillips after that date.
Longer than was usual in those days, but a
possibility. Still it dosen't give us her
birth name.
