CATHERINE STREET
THE STORY AS I KNOW IT.
Catherine Street was born in 1822 in Union County, Kentucky. Her parents were Nimrod Street and Catherine Parrack. Given in Caldwell County Ky Vital Statistics – Deaths compiled by Brenda Joyce Jerome. They had moved from North Carolina after 1810 and before 1823.
The Caldwell County Times had a regular article entitled Historical Tidbits written by William H. Wilson. An article was sent to me that had been cut from the paper.Written on the article was the name of the newspaper and 1975. Neither the date nor page number was included. It was entitled The Blackburn Family. Within the article it stated that Katherine Street married William Washington Blackburn of Caldwell county, KY in 1845. She was living in Union County at the time. However, it is not known where they married. Her sister, Elizabeth Jane Street married his W.W.'s uncle, Lewis Blackburn in Caldwell County 2 years later on April 2, 1847. Walter W. Balckburn, Caldwell County Genealogist in 1973 compiled the Blackburn Marriages taken from the Caldwell County Marriage Book . Catherine and WW. Blackburn made their home in Caldwell County.
Their children were also listed in the article with their
spouses. They are confirmed by Census data. The children of
William W. and Catherine (Street) Blackburn were:
1. Sarah A.F. born 1848 wed Houston Jones in 1866
2. Nancy E. born 1850 wed E.P.Crowder in 1865
3. George Walter born 1852 wed Rose Bell Crowell
4. Mary born 1854 wed Z.T.
Blackburn in 1871
5. Martha S. born 1859/60 wed Thomas Williamson in 1885
The 1850 Caldwell County Census lists the household as:
William W. Blackburn age 26
Katherine S. Blackburn age 27
Nancy E. Blackburn age 1
Katherine Street age 61
Daughter Sarah was not mentioned. Note that her mother was living with them at this time.
The 1860 Census gives the family as:
W.W. Blackburn age 36 farmer with RE value of $1100, personal $810
Catherine age 37
Sarah age 11
Nancy age 9
George age 7
Mary age 4
Martha 7 months
Catherine Blackburn died January 5, 1861. It was reported in Caldwell County Ky Vital Statistics – Deaths compiled by Brenda Joyce Jerome. "Catherine Blackburn, age 29, white female married seamstress died of dropsy Jan 5 1861, born Kentucky, parents Nimrod and Catharine Street." There seems to be an error in her age. We believe her to have been 39 at the time of her death. It is not known where she is buried, but it is probably Farmersville Cemetery. The Caldwell county Cemetery book says her stone reads "Catherine Blackburn 1822 - 1862"
Her husband wrote a family history in 1900. He stated that "Catherine was a godly woman with whom I lived happily until her death, which occurred in Feb. 1862". At least we have the date within a year.
William W. Blackburn married a second time on Jan 1, 1863 and had six more children.
